HeartMath & Heart Coherence

A simple, measurable way to change the state your body is operating from.

HeartMath-based heart coherence training is one of the foundations of my work because it provides a practical way to work directly with the connection among your breath, heart rhythm, emotions, brain and nervous system.

This matters because your internal state is not only something you feel.

It influences how clearly you think, how calmly you respond, how well you recover, how confidently you perform and how much pressure your body can hold before it starts working against you.

Heart coherence training helps you practise creating a more ordered rhythm in the body, so your system has a clearer signal to organise around.

It is not just relaxation.

It is a trainable self-regulation skill that can be used quietly in real life: before a meeting, during pressure, after emotional demand, before sleep, before training, or in the moment you need to stay clear without anyone knowing you are using a technique.

This is why HeartMath is at the base of Be Super You.

It is simple enough to learn.

Subtle enough to use anywhere.

And powerful enough to become the first doorway into deeper HRV-guided nervous system work, resilience and sustainable performance.

How HeartMath Works

The two graphics below show the logic behind HeartMath in practice.

The first explains why pressure can improve performance until it exceeds recovery capacity.

The second shows what we train for: a more coherent heart-brain pattern, so the body begins to shift towards a more regulated state in real time.

First, look at the curve in the 1st graphic:

The right level of pressure can sharpen attention, increase energy and move you into a period of stronger performance.

This is why many capable people learn to rely on pressure: it can make them feel focused, driven and productive.

But the curve also shows the cost when the challenge keeps rising, and recovery does not keep up.

The system can move from useful activation into hyperactivity, then exhaustion.

At the lowest point, burnout is not simply feeling tired. It can feel like a crash, where energy, clarity, motivation, emotional control and physical resilience are no longer easily available.

From there, recovery may take weeks or months because the body needs time to rebuild capacity.

This is why learning to recognise and regulate the internal state earlier matters.

Now look at the rhythm patterns.

The second graphic illustrates the difference between an incoherent and a coherent heart rhythm.

Under anger, frustration, stress or overload, the rhythm can become more irregular.

During heart coherence, created through heart-focused breathing and a renewing emotional state, the rhythm becomes more ordered.

This matters because the heart, brain and nervous system are in constant communication.

HeartMath-based coherence training gives you a practical way to influence that internal signal.

For people carrying responsibility in real life, whether through work, business, sport, creativity, parenting, caring or personal growth, this is not relaxation for its own sake.

It is a trainable self-regulation skill that can support clearer thinking, emotional steadiness, recovery and performance under pressure.

Together, the two graphics show the real purpose of the work: not to remove challenge, but to train the inner regulation needed to use pressure well, recover sooner and reduce the risk of being pulled into overload.

Your Heart Rhythm Holds Information We Can Measure

Your heart is not only a pump.

It is constantly communicating with your brain and nervous system through rhythms, signals, and patterns that influence how you feel, think, respond, recover, and perform.

And the powerful part is this: some of this communication can be measured.

HRV stands for Heart Rate Variability: the natural variation in time between your heartbeats. This variation is influenced by your autonomic nervous system, the system that helps you respond to pressure, recover after demand, regulate emotions, focus, sleep, digest, repair and return to balance.

This means your heart rhythm can give us a real-time window into your physiology.

Not as a guess.

Not only as a feeling.

As visible feedback.

In a 1:1 session, we can use HRV and coherence biofeedback to observe how your system responds when you are under pressure, when you try to settle, when you shift your breathing rhythm, and when you practise creating heart coherence.

The real question is not whether your HRV looks perfect.

The real question is:

Can your system shift?

Can it move from pressure towards coherence?

Can it recover after activation?

Can it respond to daily stressors in real time, before overload becomes exhaustion, reactivity, brain fog or burnout?

This is what we measure and train.

Scientific Foundations of HRV & Heart Coherence

HeartMath-based coherence training works with the connection among heart rhythm, emotional state, breathing rhythm, the brain, and the nervous system.

As the heart rhythm becomes more ordered, you can begin to see how your internal state changes in real time. This is where the work becomes valuable: regulation stops being an abstract idea and becomes something you can observe, practise and repeat.

You are not only learning a technique.

You are seeing your physiology respond.

That insight can be deeply motivating.

Once you see that your body can shift, you can begin to understand what helps your system return towards coherence, what keeps it stuck in pressure, and what needs to be trained next.

This is the value of HRV-guided work:

You see the signal.

You understand the pattern.

You train the shift.

Over time, this helps you build a more flexible pathway back towards coherence, recovery and steadier performance in real life.

HeartMath® Coherence Training

Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

HRV refers to the natural variation in time between your heartbeats.

HRV refers to the natural variation in time between your heartbeats.

This variation provides useful information about how your autonomic nervous system responds to pressure, recovery, emotion, and regulation.

A flexible nervous system can activate when needed and then return to a state of recovery. When the system is overloaded, the heart rhythm may become less organised or less responsive.

With HRV and coherence feedback, you can begin to see these patterns in real time and understand how your body responds from the inside.

Combining Multiple Techniques

HeartMath® coherence training is not only one breathing exercise.

It brings together heart-focused attention, breathing rhythm, emotional self-regulation, renewal of emotional states, coherence practice, and, where appropriate, HRV biofeedback.

There are many HeartMath® techniques that can be used depending on the person, the goal and the situation.

Some techniques are used for quick, in-the-moment regulation. Others support deeper emotional balance, resilience, recovery, performance, decision-making and long-term self-regulation.

This makes the training practical, adaptable and easy to apply in real life.

Benefits of the Training

HeartMath® coherence training can support people who want to improve self-regulation, stress resilience, emotional steadiness, focus, recovery and performance under pressure.

It can be delivered in various ways to suit your needs.

In 1:1 sessions, the training can be personalised with HRV and coherence feedback, so we can explore how your system responds and what helps it shift.

In group training, we go through HeartMath® techniques step by step, so participants can learn practical tools for everyday stress, emotional regulation and resilience.

For corporations and teams, resilience training can support workplace wellbeing, communication, focus, recovery, leadership capacity and the ability to respond more effectively under pressure.

The aim is to make self-regulation practical, measurable and usable in real life.
